The Chiropractic Process

What you should expect from a visit at Beauchamp Chiropractic, a Creating Wellness Centre:

  • Step 1 – You’ll be asked to complete a health care questionnaire that will allow us to uncover previous and current health challenges as well as get an overview of your lifestyle.
  • Step 2 – You will watch a brief and powerful video that will explain in more detail what the doctor will be looking for in your health evaluation and assessment.

  • Step 3 – Our Chiropractic health assistant will review your health questionnaire with you and gather any additional information we need to address your current health problems or concerns.

  • Step 4 - The doctor will do a full chiropractic evaluation on you that will include a posture assessment to determine any postural imbalances that can create stress on your body. The doctor will also do a palpation of your spine to uncover areas of subluxations—misalignments of the spine that may cause interference on your nervous system and cause a lower state of health.

  • Step 5 – You’ll receive a state of the art Neuro-Spinal Scan to detect any interferences on your nervous system. It will evaluate imbalances in the muscles and how your autonomic nervous—organ function—is working. The scans will allow us to detect interferences that you aren’t even feeling—because only 10% of the nervous system perceives pain.  This technology is certified by the Space Foundation and has been used on NASA 2 shuttle mission to evaluate the impact of space on astronauts’ nervous systems.

  • Step 6 – You could be sent for spinal x-rays; these are a very important tool to detect subluxation decay (arthritis) in the spine.  The x-rays will provide a blueprint of your spine and will help us decide on the best type of care for you.

  • Step 7 – It is very important for us that you understand the findings of your exam.  On your second visit you will receive a truly enlightening group doctor’s report that will explain the meaning of our findings and the impact they have on your health and wellness.

  • Step 8 – The doctor will then review your findings with you individually.  It will astound you how much you learn about yourself and knowledge is power. You will be educated on the short and long term effects of subluxation and offered choices of care.

  • Step 9 – You will receive your first Chiropractic adjustment.

  • Step 10 – On the following visit the doctor will go over more specific recommendations for your care so you’ll be on the road to wellness!

Insight Subluxation Station

Dr. Nathalie Beauchamp has joined a growing number of chiropractic doctors that have upgraded their level of care to assess the health and wellbeing of their community. Patients of Dr. Beauchamp can now be examined by the Insight Subluxation Station™ , a non intrusive technology which is a neuro-spinal screening and evaluation system originally designed to measure changes in the spinal muscles of astronauts.

Dr. Beauchamp uses the Insight™ technology to measure subluxations, which helps identify misalignments of the spine that cause nerve interference. Spinal misalignment disturbs the muscle’s regular nerve function, causing an abnormal amount of electrical flow to the muscles and creating other health problems.

The Insight Subluxation Station™ measures the electrical flow and charts it using graphics that show the spine and specify precisely when chiropractors should adjust their patients, allowing for increased accuracy in diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes.

The Insight™ technology used by Dr. Beauchamp has also received exclusive certification as a Certified Space Technology™ by The Space Foundation, which is co-founded by NASA.

“We are extremely excited to be able to bring this exciting technology to our community,” states Dr. Beauchamp. “Providing the highest level of care for our patients is the goal and purpose of our office.”

FAQ • Questions About Chiropractic

What is a Subluxation?

The spinal cord has 31 spinal nerves which exit from between the spinal bones. Although the spinal column offers protection to these sensitive spinal nerves, this delicate balance can be disrupted when the spinal bones become displaced. Such spinal bone displacements are called subluxation.

What are the effects of a Subluxation?

A spinal subluxation involves not only a misalignment and loss of movement in the spine but also causes nervous system interference as well as inhibits the vital communication between your brain and the rest of your body.

What can cause Subluxations?

A subluxation may be caused by physical, biochemical and psychological stresses, which exceed your body’s ability to adapt.

What is the role of your Wellness Chiropractor?

The primary objective of your chiropractor is to locate and correct and prevent spinal subluxation thus allowing your full expression of life. By minimizing the effects of subluxation your wellness chiropractor strives to:

  1. Improve the function of your spine and enable you to be active, energetic and at your best.

  2. Restore, maintain and optimize your nervous system integrity so that the intelligent that runs your body, had full access to the tissues of you body.

  3. Keep the communication channels open between your body, mind and spirit.

  4. Minimize the effects of subluxation and in so doing improves the body’s self –healing and self-regulating abilities

  5. Help you lead a wellness lifestyle that addresses the 3 dimensions of stresses in your life (physical, biochemical and psychological) by giving tools (Creating Wellness System)

What is an adjustment?

The method that your chiropractor will use to reduce subluxation is called an adjustment. An adjustment involves the gentle and specific application of a force to the spine in order to allow the body to restore normal spinal and nervous system function.

Do have need to have pain to see a Wellness Chiropractor?

You do not need to be in pain to see a Wellness Chiropractor. Because of the chiropractic principle, having a stress free nervous system allows you to perform at your full potential – who would not want that. Often times if we wait to have signs and symptoms – detrimental health consequences are already in progress.

Who should see a Wellness Chiropractor?

Becoming and staying your best, requires a commitment to the gradual adoption of wellness habits, which once integrated can maintained throughout your lifetime. Just as healthy eating, exercise and good rest benefit us, chiropractic adjustments are beneficial at all stages of life. Whether you are well rested or stressed out, old or young, retired or in school, you will benefit from having your spine and nervous system working at their best.

Techniques Used

Diversified Technique

At Beauchamp Chiropractic, we use an adjusting style commonly referred to as “Diversified.”

First, an analysis of your spine is performed. This can initially involve a case history and X-ray pictures of your spine.

Subsequent visits may include motion palpation, with the chiropractor feeling the spinal joints move as you turn and bend. Or, a leg check may be performed, to uncover an imbalance in the neck or lower spine.

With the malposition of one or more spinal bones identified, a specific manual thrust is administered. The direction, speed, depth and angle that are used is the result of years of experience, practice and a thorough understanding of spinal mechanics.

The energy delivered during the thrust may produce a slight “popping” sound from the shifting of gas and fluids in the joint. This sound may be interesting, but is not a guide as to the value or effectiveness of the adjustment.

While improving spinal biomechanics can reduce nervous system interferences, virtually all joints of the body can be adjusted to help restore proper range of motion.

Activator Methods®

We use one of the most popular “low force” chiropractic techniques in the world.

First the Evaluation

We begin by analyzing how well your spine moves. We test how well you turn and bend. While you’re lying face down, we’ll evaluate the length of your legs. This simple procedure can reveal significant differences in leg lengths. Click here to try a simple leg-length home test.

This time-tested protocol tells us if subluxations exist and their location. It also helps us know when to adjust and when not to adjust.

The Adjusting Instrument

The Activator Methods® Adjusting Instrument is a handheld spring-loaded tool that delivers a consistent low-force, high-speed thrust.

Because it’s many times faster than adjustments delivered by hand, the body rarely tightens to resist, making adjustments comfortable and effective. It’s also helpful for adjusting elbows, wrists, knees and other joints of the body.

The Follow Up

After your adjustment, we retest to make sure changes have been produced. Testing afterwards helps us deliver high-quality care and high levels of patient satisfaction.

Thompson

The Thompson Technique, developed by Dr. J. Clay Thompson, has evolved into a system of analysis and a way of adjusting the full spine. The combination produces precise adjustments and high levels of patient comfort.

A System of Analysis

Early chiropractors noticed that subluxations would produce the appearance of a short, or contracted leg. Using a protocol of comparing leg lengths while the patient turned their head, helped determine whether the subluxation was in the upper, middle or lower back.

Terminal Point Table

What patients often notice first is our segmental “drop” table. After stepping onto the platform, the table gently lowers you into a horizontal position. This helps preserve any leg length inequality.

Individual cushions or “drop pieces” located along our table surface, support each area of your spine until the thrust is delivered. Then, each drop-piece gently gives way, reducing the amount of energy needed to move a specific spinal segment.

Popular and Patented

So unique is this approach, Dr. Thompson was granted a patent in 1955. Since then, because of its precision and patient results, it is a technique used around the world.
